New Year, New Blog

Hello, lovely friends! Welcome to my website and blog. I am so happy you are here. My name is Beth Chien and I am a mixed media artist and instructor. Through inspiring artists’ classes and pure exploration, I have learned many things over the years. I want to turn around and share those things with you! I truly believe everyone has creativity in them and I am passionate about helping YOU tap into it!

I know this past year has been so hard for so many people, including me. I am so hopeful for 2021. My husband and I are in central Massachusetts as I am typing this with movers bustling around me, packing up our house. We will be moving into our new house in Palatine, IL (Chicago suburb) in a week and a half. I’ll share photos of our unique mid-century house soon!

On my website and blog, you’ll find inspiration, tutorials, connection and funny stories. And because my friends know that I always keep it real, you’ll sometimes hear the bad with the good too. For the most part, though, I am a goofball that loves to tell dad jokes. A Christian who is far from perfect and cusses too much. A recorder of life that always has a camera and journal in hand. And a lover of animals who flips the channel when Sarah Mclachlan starts singing ‘In the Arms of the Angel’. (does anyone else get depressed by those commercials?!)

In the next few weeks, you’ll have an opportunity to sign up for my newsletters. In the next few months, I will be launching an online course. And with the time in between, I’ll be loading up my YouTube channel with process videos and tips. Until then, check out my 5in5 series on IGTV. (#beths5in5) I should be starting those series up again soon (or some version of it). It’s where I share 5 things in 5 minutes.

Please also check out Leaca Young’s free 6-Day Challenges here. I am a contributing artist later this year. The first videos will be up mid February for Valentines Day.

I want to leave you with some very inspiring street art photos I took this past weekend in Chicago. I have been inspired by urban art for more than 15 years. You will see this reflected in my art and style. I love the beautifully aged peeled paint, the layers of posters and the grunginess of the concrete and brick. Couple those textures with vibrant shapes and colors created by artists… and I am in love. To give you a clue about my upcoming class; this city walk I did was part of my research process. Are you getting excited yet?
